I Love When Things Move Forward

…but I hate being too tired to admire the loot!

I added more wood to bed 3, then started adding the compost.  Added a couple more blocks to bed 4, still too much ice, but sliding up to the sixties all week, I will be outside every day!  This is when I get spring fever.

Ran into town today and purchased the two 6x3x1.5 metal shelving units for my indoor garden. Yay! I went to a different store with more stock.  Still need more grow lites, but the shelves will go up tomorrow.

I stopped by a friend’s house and loaded up 9 large bags of compost material from her garden. More loot!  Then we went to a nice New Mexican restaurant for dinner and a catch up chat.  My truck piled up high with boxes and compost made it look like the Clampetts had moved in to town.  It was a slow day in the restaurant anyway, and Granny Clampett here could pay for her meal.  It’s all good.

When I stopped at the mailbox, my seed orders are all or part in.  I haven’t opened the packages, but there are a pile of them.  My non-GMO-dry-gardening-landrace-seed-future mades me very happy.  The Food Forest is gonna be humming this summer.

I got home and the FedEx guy left 104 pounds of non GMO wheat berries on my porch.

I got so much loot today it felt like Christmas.  I love when things move forward even if I hate being too tired to admire the loot!

About rebeccatreeseed

I am a naturalist raised by naturalists. Treeseed is my earned name, while Rebecca is my birth name. I am of Northern European descent, with a quarter Irish.quarter thrown in. I suspect I was a product of northern invaders into Ireland into Ireland. but hard to say since DNA disproved the family story about Apache blood! I have found some odd ancestors to replace them. Last year I bought 5 acres of pinyon-juniper forest on the side of a mountain in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. I am fulfilling a lifetime dream of a cabin in the mountains and a food forest that will feed me and local wildlife. I want to share this new phase of my life with others that might be interested.

Good for you! Got part of my first batch of seeds from annie’s heirlooms yesterday. Hunting up some concrete blocks on craigslist. Gonna do the hugelculture thing. Got plenty of wood that’s just right for the base. Excited about that project. Gonna do it at river property.

Good for you. I know you will save a lot of worry about the summer drought. You can stack the log (s) without concrete too. They look like hummocks. I still have to cap my blocks… eventually.

There is always more to do, huh?

More to do keeps me out of mischief. I can do no work gardens but like to play out there… and make up chores to do. The time I fell off my roof and sat on my deck instead, my garden was glorious all summer long. I still pretend that my attendance is important.

  3. I share your excitement: A car full of stuff for the garden is like Father Christmas on wheels. Am going into the wonderfully names Heliopolis (outer Cairo) tomorrow to stock up on flowers for the do-it-yourself shelf just under our front window, and I can’t wait. You capture that sense of excitement.
P.S. How did you come to fall off the roof?

    • Yay to flower shopping! I love flowers. I owned a 4000 square foot house built in 1912. It had hand rolled glass windows across the second story in the back, a sleeping porch in the Texas heat. I used that enormous room as my painting studio. The glass was irreplaceable. A windstorm came up and started flipping up panels on the deck cover below. I got up on the wood frame to nail them back down or pull them off. The beam was solid but the piece it rested on was rotted. It tipped over and dropped me 12 feet to the rotted deck. I went through 3 feet to the ground. Hurt bad! I had planned to tear the deck cover off and repair the deck. Instead, my church buddies came over, and made a huge barbecue while the guys ripped off the cover and repaired the deck. Took me a long time to recover. I spent the summer sitting on that deck watching wave after wave of blooms on my half acre garden.
